Joseph Addai

In the span of one game, the Indianapolis Colts offense went from high-powered to decimated.

Hours after learning that tight end Dallas Clark is out indefinitely, NFL.com’s Jason La Canfora is reporting that running back Joseph Addai might miss several weeks as well with an injured shoulder. Similar to Clark, Addai will get a second opinion and obviously hopes to hear good news. He’ll be resting up during the Colts Week 7 bye.

Although both of Addai’s shoulders are banged up, it’s his left one that’s causing him the most discomfort. He told the Indianapolis Star that, while it’s not torn, there’s a problem with a nerve and it might not be at full strength for “four or five weeks.” In fact, it was so bad that after Sunday night’s win against the Redskins, Addai couldn’t even raise the shoulder at all.

Luckily for Indy the bye week came at the absolute perfect time, though it might not help them if both players’ injuries are severe enough to keep them out for weeks at a time – or, in Clark’s case, possibly the entire season.

If Addai misses significant time, Donald Brown becomes the favorite to start in his place with Mike Hart as his primary backup. Expect quarterback Peyton Manning to throw the ball more than usual, with receivers Reggie Wayne, Austin Collie, and Pierre Garcon reaping the benefits.
