While there were reports earlier in the year that Donovan McNabb and Peyton Manning were close to receiving new contracts, that’s simply not the case anymore.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that, while negotiations are ongoing, they’re not on a “fast track” and it would be surprising to see a new deal get done before the season is over. Back in June, there was speculation that an extension was forthcoming for McNabb, but that turned out to be nothing but hearsay.
The news is slightly worse for Peyton. While there’s no doubt he’ll eventually receive his mega-deal, Colts general manager Bill Polian announced today that it won’t get done this season and he won’t even negotiate or discuss the prospects of the new extension. Manning’s bar was set when Patriots quarterback Tom Brady signed his four-year, $72 million pact in early September. Manning’s expected to receive around $20 million annually.
