Shawne Merriman
The NFL’s waiver wire will include two hot names: receiver Randy Moss who, of course, was waived yesterday and now linebacker Shawne Merriman.
According to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer, the Chargers are expected to cut ties with Merriman once he passes a physical today. Merriman is currently on injured reserve with a calf injury; teams are not permitted to waive a player unless they’ve shown they’re healthy.
“Lights Out” carries a 2010 salary of $3.26 million, but that won’t stop a few clubs from giving the former Defensive Rookie of the Year a look or two.
A first-round draft pick in 2005, Merriman ends his Chargers career with 231 tackles, 54 sacks, and one interception.
