Though he was considering it just two days ago, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will not fire coach Wade Phillips, despite their 1-6 start to the season.
Per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Jones again assured the fans and media that he’s sticking with Phillips and says firing him would just be a “temporary feel-good move”. Despite the embarrassing home loss to the Jaguars last Sunday, the two never had a “Come to Jesus” meeting the next day.
Following those comments, Jones once again expressed to the fans how sorry he is for how the season’s turning out. Oh, and he also confirmed he has no interest in free-agent receiver Randy Moss.
It now looks like Phillips will play out 2010 and then either resign or endure being fired by Jones, who likes to steal the headlines by making flashy moves.
If Phillips is gone, does Jerry go after Bill Cowher to be his next coach? What about Jon Gruden? It’s improbable, but the talent is there in Dallas and the possibility of a blockbuster move is always there with Jones.
