The Miami Dolphins pulled out a victory against the Tennessee Titans earlier this afternoon, though they might have to call upon their third-string quarterback for the rest of the year.
Starting quarterback Chad Pennington, making his first start in two seasons, hurt his right shoulder on the game’s first play. Pennington, who has been plagued by shoulder injuries in his career, left the game and never returned. According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the injury will likely end Pennington’s season and possibly his career. The 34-year old can’t shake the injury bug and another surgery on that shoulder will render it near useless. He’d be smart to hang ‘em up and try to latch on as an assistant coach.
When Pennington left the game, former starter Chad Henne entered the game and was playing well until the third quarter when a Titans defender rolled up on his left knee. Henne’s scheduled for an MRI tonight, but the initial indications are that he’s “more than likely” done for the season. Because the team is on a short week – their name game is on Thursday night – tests and other examinations will have to be rushed.
Tyler Thigpen closed out the game and will become the starter if both of these reports hold up, though the team is expected to sign a couple of free-agent quarterbacks.
Thigpen might possess more of a downfield nature with his passing, but the chemistry isn’t there with the receivers yet in spite of their victory. Miami figures to lean heavily on Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams going forward, but by no means will they shy away from throwing the ball.
We’ll keep an eye on this situation and will update accordingly.
UPDATE: The Dolphins are preparing to work out free-agent JaMarcus Russell.
UPDATE #2: Tom Brandstater, the former Denver Bronco, will be brought in for a workout as well. Expect a bunch of names to head to South Florida in the coming days.
UPDATE #3: Another name being thrown out there is Patrick Ramsey, who the Dolphins will host tomorrow.

Update! JaMarcus Russell has been contacted by the Miami Dolphins to schedule a workout.
Also, it’s rumored that 67-year-old Joe Namath is also to be brought in for a work-out. Says Namath: “If Brett Favre can do it, so can I.”
