The banged-up San Diego Chargers get an extra day to rest this week and still will be without two of their best offensive weapons.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, tight end Antonio Gates is listed as questionable but “would appear doubtful” for Monday night’s contest against the Denver Broncos. He’s dealing with a torn plantar fascia that’s recently kept the All-Pro tight end out of action.
Meanwhile, running back Ryan Mathews is listed as doubtful for MNF with an ankle injury. He’s not expected to play. Mathews re-injured his ankle in the team’s win over the Texans in Week 9 and hasn’t played since.
In their places, Randy McMichael will draw another start at tight end while Mike Tolbert becomes the starting running back. Tolbert, especially, has a good matchup against a bad Broncos defense. He has a chance to put up some gaudy numbers.
