DeSean Jackson
The Philadelphia Eagles can’t seem to get their big play receiver, DeSean Jackson, going lately. Coupled with the recent lambasting he received in front of the entire team, Jackson hasn’t been the same dynamic player in 2010 that he was last season. Now we might know why.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Jackson is supposedly too wrapped up in the idea of a contract extension that it’s hindering his play on the field.
Jackson’s agent, the notorious Drew Rosenhaus, put the idea into the young Pro Bowler’s head that he’s outperformed his current deal and deserves a more lucrative one. The two reportedly have spent a bunch of time texting each other back and forth during work days, and that’s caught the collective eye of the Eagles organization.
D-Jax, who wouldn’t get into financial discussions with reporters, dismissed the notion that an extension would improve his performance.
“That has nothing to do with anything,” he said
Although the wideout shot down that theory, the Inquirer’s reporter, Jeff McLane, notes that theres’s a “tenuous climate” at Eagles’ headquarters due to Jackson’s “fragile state of mind.”
I don’t think anyone will argue with the fact that Jackson has earned a significantly higher salary than what he’s making now. However, he can’t get on the same page with his quarterback and it’s leading to an offense that’s forced to look at its other targets – including receivers Jeremy Maclin and Jason Avant, along with tight end Brent Celek.
Philadelphia won’t give in to his wants at this point in the season, but should be more than happy to satisfy him during game time by calling his number on more plays. Expect to see a lot of balls thrown his way on Thursday night against the Texans woeful secondary.
A win by the Eagles – as well as a touchdown or two by Jackson – would make these problems disappear very quickly.
