As if the Denver Broncos’ season couldn’t get any worse, they’ve now got legal woes on their hands, courtesy of one its rookie players.
According to the Denver Post, cornerback Perrish Cox was arrested on Thursday night by the Lone Tree Police Department and charged with sexual assault.
Although many of the details are currently unfolding — and therefore are unknown at this point — Cox was held at the Douglas County Detention Center on $50,000 bond.
The incident in question reportedly first took place on October 28 when the police were notified of an occurrence of sexual assault. After the case was handed to the distract attorney, charges were officially filed and an arrest warrant went out.
Cox, a fifth-round pick out of Oklahoma State, dipped on many teams’ draft boards due to character concerns and this is exactly why. He’s a talented player, but you have to wonder where he’s at mentally.
Broncos coach Eric Studesville has cooperated with the police by “gathering facts” and released a statement on the matter.
“This is a situation we take very, very seriously within the organization,” Studesville said. “It’s disappointing news. Any time you hear something like this, it is. We’re going through the process of what we have to do, and that’s completely separate from what we have to do in the football game.”
Not a good year to be apart of Denver’s organization. Between this, the SpyGate-level scandal that took place, the abrupt firing of coach Josh McDaniels, not to mention their current 3-9 record, they have to be seen as a bit of a laughing stock around the league.
You’ve got to feel for Studesville, though. Just three days after inheriting the team following McDaniels’ dismissal, he already has a messy off-the-field issue on his hands as he prepares his team to face in Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
