The punishment is in for Sal Alosi.
According to ESPN, the Jets head strength and conditioning coach has been fined $25,000 and suspended for the rest of the season without pay for his actions in “TripGate”.
During the Jets’ 10-6 loss to the Dolphins this past Sunday, Alosi was caught sticking his knee out to intentionally trip Miami’s Nolan Carroll, who was running down the sideline as a gunner on a punt. Carroll was shaken up on the play, but eventually walked it off. Check out the visual proof of this incident in the above video.
Alosi, who will keep his job in 2011, later apologized for his actions and deeply regretted what transpired.
“Sal feels terrible for what he did, and yet he took ownership, which I respect,” Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said. “It’s something we take very seriously here. We’re extremely disappointed with what he did. There’s no place for it in this game and he knows that. It’s our job to hold him accountable.”
“I accept responsibility for my actions and respect the team’s decision,” Alosi said in a statement released by the team.
