Despite owner Jerry Jones’ efforts, we won’t see Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo on the field again in 2010.

According to USA Today, Dallas has placed Romo on the season-ending injured reserve list today, shutting the Pro Bowler down for the rest of a once-promising season.

Romo suffered a broken collarbone on October 25 and the original prognosis called for him to miss at least 6-8 weeks. Last month, Jones came out and said that he hopes to have Romo return for Week 16, when Dallas travels to Arizona to face the Cardinals.

Jones’ tune changed this past Sunday when he revealed that Romo was behind schedule in his comeback efforts, all but assuring that he was destined for IR. Romo’s season officially ends with 1,605 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also set a career high in completion percentage — 69.5 — during his six appearances this season.

Romo will be fully healthy in time for all of the offseason activities and workouts, so there’s no doubt he’ll be under center in 2011.

Jon Kitna, who’s lead the team to four wins in six games under interim coach Jason Garrett, will remain the starter in Dallas. They will finish up with two games on the road,  at Arizona and Philadelphia.
