For the first time this season, San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York didn’t give his head coach a vote of confidence after a loss, signaling that an organizational housecleaning might be upcoming.

Per Matt Maiocco, of Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, York wouldn’t commit to head coach Mike Singletary for Week 17′s finale against the Arizona Cardinals. San Francisco was officially eliminated from playoff contention with the 25-17 loss to the Rams this afternoon.

“We want to take our time before we make any decisions like that,” Jed York said when asked if Singletary would coach the 49ers in the final game of the season. “You don’t want to make an emotional decision right now, right after the game.”

Maiocco suggests it’s not a matter of if, but when Singletary will get canned. Reportedly, York and other team executives were holding discussions on whether to fire Singletary outright or wait until the last game of the season.

York has said there will be “major changes” coming and one of them would be the hiring of a general manager. The new GM — who will be chosen after Singletary is fired — would work with York to handpick the next coach and his staff.

Although Singletary has two years and $10 million worth of his contract remaining, York will do anything in his power to bring a Super Bowl title back to the city of San Francisco.

“Money is no object,” York said. “Our object is to win the Super Bowl. We’re going to make this right. What bothers me is this is a playoff-caliber game and we didn’t get it done.”

Back in October, there was a report that said a miracle was needed for Singletary to keep his job in 2011. Fast forward two months later; the 49ers are out of the playoffs and soon enough the head coach will be out of a job.
