Over the past weekend, Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes celebrated his 27th birthday at his mother’s house. In a video posted on Facebook, Holmes took some time out to speak to Jets fans and reassured the fan base that he’ll be back in New York for the 2011 season — and likely several more after.
“Trust me, as soon as I sign back with the Jets, everything will be taken care of,” Holmes says.
Last week, the Jets gave Holmes a first and third-round contract tender — the highest possible. He’s scheduled to become a restricted free agent, but that could change when a new CBA is agreed to.
Because the NFL and NFLPA are still in negotiations, new contracts aren’t allowed to be consummated. Once the league is back on track, expect Holmes to sign a long-term pact with Gang Green.
