There is no doubt that Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow finished his collegiate career as one of the best players in the history of college football. However, here he is now in Denver, where his name doesn’t carry the same weight.
After a marginal showing on an awful Broncos squad last season, the higher ups don’t seem too pleased with Tebow’s play, and his replacement may soon be on the way.
Sources told SI.com’s Tony Pauline that Tebow is “not the quarterback” for John Elway, the team’s VP of football operations. Pauline declared the position a “priority” for the Broncos, and also uncovered part of their draft plans. Denver is expected to draft a QB, and it could be happening “early” — likely in the second round.
Nevada’s Colin Kaepernick, who the Broncos have already worked out, will visit with the team next week, and could be an ideal match for Elway and new head coach John Fox.
Kaepernick projects as a top-tier second round pick, so he should be on the board early for the Broncos if they want him. If not, this year’s class is ripe with quarterback prospects; Arkansas’ Ryan Mallett, Florida State’s Christian Ponder, and Washington’s Jake Locker could also be in the mix in round two.
If this scenario plays out, then Elway truly wasn’t happy with the route that former coach Josh McDaniels went last season, selecting Tebow with the 25th overall pick as the organization’s next franchise signal-caller. Tebow didn’t light the world on fire in 2010, but it’s not like he had a fair shot to prove himself by playing primarily in the team’s Wild Cat formation.
Kyle Orton is assumed to open the season as the starter, but if he’s yanked, in could come Tebow, Kaepernick, or any other QB that the Elway handpicks to lead the team.

Hey dink. I think I did pretty damn good with all things considering. God, why is everybody soooooo against me? I lite a fire under a sunk and checked out Broncos team. If Elway drafts a QB in this draft then he really will sink this team. He can’t be that stupid.
