Despite many assuming he’s on his way out, one of the Miami Dolphins’ veteran running backs would like to remain with the team.

According to Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald, Ronnie Brown is still “very interested” in returning to the Dolphins. Brown is scheduled to become a free agent once the league re-opens for business.

After Miami traded up in the second round of last month’s draft to select Kansas State running back Daniel Thomas, it was a clear indication that they may be ready to move on from Brown — and possibly Ricky Williams.

Even before the draft took place, Williams thought his time with the ‘Fins was up.

“We are not the same offense we were two years ago,” Williams said. “I think new offensive coordinator. I think they might want to go in a different direction.”

Although Brown is set to turn 30-years-old — a dreaded age for running backs — and looked ineffective for long stretches last season, he likely has enough left in the tank to hang around as Thomas’ backup if he’s anointed as the starter.

Then again, that’s assuming free agency actually begins and another club doesn’t sign Brown first. Also, who knows if the Dolphins will pounce on the Panthers’ DeAngelo Williams, an impending free agent who at one time was said to be at the top of Miami’s “must-get list.”

That’s what happens when the draft occurs before free agency.

In either case, the Dolphins added some much-needed youth to their stable of running backs. It’s just unclear if Thomas is ready to hit the ground running. If so, that would probably spell the end of the R&R Connection.
