For those Patriots fans who are anticipating a second tour of duty from a certain veteran receiver, don’t count on it.

The Boston Globe hears “on good authority” that a Randy Moss-Pats reunion is “not going to happen.” New England needs another quality wideout behind Deion Branch and Wes Welker, but the 34-year-old free agent won’t be part of the equation.

There’s a reason why coach Bill Belichick shipped Moss out of town in the middle of last season. And it’s the same reason why their offense immediately picked up after his departure — Moss was simply not a good fit with the Patriots, be it on or off-the-field.

According to the Globe, other options may include the Bengals’ Chad Ochocinco, the Vikings’ Sidney Rice, and the New York Jets’ Brad Smith. Ocho is a candidate to be released by Cincy, while Rice and Smith are free agents.

As for Moss, the only team to show a genuine interest in him thus far is the New York Jets, who could turn to him if they lose Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards, or Smith when the frenzied free agency period begins.
