Last season, the Redskins chose to pass on a quarterback, skipping over a signal-caller both in free agency and the draft.
The questionable decision left them with Rex Grossman, whose dismal play eventually led him to the bench, and John Beck, who didn’t exactly master coach Mike Shanahan’s complex offense.
This year, Washington isn’t likely to repeat their mistake, and may opt to corral arguably the highest profile free agent in NFL history.
“Everyone” CBSSports’ Mike Freeman spoke to in the NFL believes the Skins will sign Peyton Manning if/when the future Hall of Famer hits free agency.
“And I mean just about everyone,” Freeman affirmed.
Freeman also notes that Manning and owner Jim Irsay, both of whom aren’t on the best of terms lately, plan to meet “within the next 48 hours,” as Peyton first wants his brother, Eli, to hold the limelight for a bit after winning the Super Bowl.
This report just confirms speculation that the Redskins are among the front-runners for Manning’s services, along with the Dolphins and possibly the Cardinals.
Surprisingly enough, the ‘Skins have a ton of cap room to work with, and need a QB to compete in the NFC East; Shanahan’s job may depend on it.
However, is the interest from Peyton mutual, knowing he’d play outdoors, in a different conference, and against three defenses that specialize in rushing the passer?
That’ll be the $28 million question for Manning, which we should know the answer to in the coming weeks.

If the Redskins do end up with Peyton Manning we probably won’t have to worry about him retiring, He will get killed there. They have no one to catch the ball this will force Manning to stand back there and look for someone, the O line which isn’t that good will break down and Manning will be injured.
I think people are forgetting the fact that one of Peyton’s top receivers from Indy, Reggie Wayne, will be available in free agency. The Redskins would more than likely make a play for him, along with either V-Jax or Bowe. Couple that with guys like Gaffney, and a young receiver in Lenard Hankerson (who showed flashes of what he can do before getting hurt), the Redskins will have plenty of receivers for Manning to throw to.
I just love how people forget about free agency and the rest of the draft picks the Redskins would have to help solidify the receivers and the offensive line.
I’m pretty sure he wants a chance to play with a winning team, so why would he waste what time he has left here? The Jets are the only real chance he has for more rings!
There is absolutely no way that Peyton goes to the same divison as his brother.
if anybody needs a qb its the viks they got no rb and no qb with a high draft pick that they always trade for some worn out player maybe this year they use it on someone that can do something like peyton! skol vikings!!!!!!!!
