Even though Terrell Owens is gainfully employed — finally — the mercurial wideout thinks he’s not too long for the Indoor Football League, as he’s got plans to return to the professional level, ESPNDallas.com reports.
After being officially introduced by the Allen Wranglers on Wednesday, Owens, who will play receiver for the team, stated why he took the gig, and made it clear we’ve not seen the last of him in the NFL.
“It was an opportunity for myself and my family,” Owens said. “It’s a way for myself to keep in shape. I haven’t retired from the NFL. I want to play a couple more years. This right here will allow me to do that and assess where I am. I know I’m physically fit to play the game still.”
“House” be damned!
In addition to catching passes — assuming that surgically repaired knee holds up — T.O. is also on board as 50-percent owner of the Texas-based Wranglers.
He has the potential to earn as much as $500,000, and definitely needs the dough considering his bevy of ongoing legal battles.
Hey, money’s money, right?
“I feel like I have been put on this platform to allow people to tell these guys, ‘Be on top of your finances.’ Because they say they are doing one thing and they’re not and they’re doing another. Other than that, however many dollars I have lost, I can still make up those dollars. Other than that, it’s been a rough situation. It’s been a rough year. But overall I am still holding my head up high.”
Despite what Owens says, I very much doubt there’s still gas left in the 38-year-old’s tank; at least, not enough to fuel a successful comeback with the big boys.

At his age, it will be nearly impossible for him to make a comeback. even if a team were to take a chance on him, he wouldn’t be a starting receiver in the NFL.
If his knee is well, he could certainly play in the NFL again. The problem is that his personality and attitude make him undesirable now that he’s an aged, and at best third wide receiver. and not worth it for teams to sign him. He still had the speed and skills in 2010, and he keeps himself in incredible shape. If he can lose the ego, earn his way on a team at a base salary, and play for the love of the game, perhaps someone will sign him, and he can catch his way to being the second all time reception leader. Will that happen? Unlikely. Somewhere along the way history would repeat itself and he’ll soon find himself released, not because of lack of skill, but because of his personality. He does have suffer from some form of a mental disorder, which is sad, but nonetheless, he’s a sure shot Hall Of Famer, and one of the greatest wide receivers of all time.
