Just as Scott Fujita was professing his innocence Tuesday, commissioner Roger Goodell indicated he’s ready to prove bounties did indeed take place in New Orleans.

Addressing the media following the Spring League Meeting, Goodell said the NFL plans to release proof of bounties to the public, NFL.com reports.

“Yes, I do,” Goodell said when he was asked if he expected the proof to be revealed.

Though we’ll eventually get to feast our eyes on what should be overwhelming evidence, Goodell said no more information would be released until the appeals process with the NFL Players Association concludes. Fujita, Jonathan Vilma, and other alleged participants in the supposed ‘pay-for-play’ system under then-coordinator Gregg Williams have recently filed grievances after being handed multi-game bans.

Interestingly, Goodell confirmed the NFLPA “expressly told the players not to cooperate in the bounty investigation.”

“I invited them in and they decided not to do that,” Goodell said.

Goodell, whose faced an intense amount of criticism from players, fans, and media in recent months, acknowledged the process will take time, and is not worried about appeasing each sect.

“You don’t worry about a popularity contest. You can’t. You can’t make everyone happy on this,” Goodell said.

No matter what is revealed, it appears Goodell learned his lesson after the last NFL scandal, SpyGate, when he destroyed videotapes and other incriminating evidence against the Patriots, basically sweeping the dirt under the rug.

This will certainly be worth a gander or two, but there’s no telling when the proof actually comes out. If Goodell takes as long as he did issuing the initial suspensions, it unfortunately will be later, not sooner.

There’s no question that new coach Greg Schiano is changing the culture in Tampa Bay. ‘Out with the old, in with the new’ is his motto, and, in this instance, it certainly applies to the tight end position.

Per Sirius XM NFL Radio host Andrew Bogusch, Kellen Winslow was told Monday morning that he’s “not wanted” by the Buccaneers organization, and the team will help facilitate a trade.

The reason for Winslow’s departure reportedly has to do with his offseason habits; he worked out out alone, rather than with his team, obviously a no-no in Schiano’s eyes.

However, financial reasons likely play a bigger part. The 28-year-old looked to have lost some of his explosiveness last season and the club must feel he’s not worth the $3 million in base salary. If a trade partner cannot be found, expect Winslow to be given his outright release.

In either case, it appears the Buccaneers already have a replacement lined up.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Tampa recently worked out free agent Dallas Clark, and are “expected to try to make a move on him this week.”

Released by the Colts in January, Clark has received little interest since. His tires were kicked by the Patriots and Chiefs, but that’s as far as it’s gone.

In Tampa, he’d bring leadership and a veteran presence, though he’s just about five-years older than Winslow and is not nearly the playmaker he used to be. Despite his caveats, Clark would likely start from Day One, so look for a deal to eventually get done.

As for Winslow, well, it’s come time for him to soldier on elsewhere.

UPDATE: The Bucs have signed Clark, according to reports. Expect Winslow to be dumped in short order.

After undergoing a procedure to repair his partially torn Achilles tendon, Terrell Suggs vowed to return in 2012, saying his four-to-six month recovery period will eventually allow him to take the field.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh, following a meeting with Suggs and renowned foot and ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson, seems to share that sentiment, and continues to extend hope to both the team and fan base.

“I’ll take that outlook, I’m on board for that,” Harbaugh told the Carroll County Times. “That’s everything that we’ve heard from the doctors would be consistent with that. Everything Terrell said about it from my understanding has been right on. It’s just going to depend on the injury, the healing process and his effort and his work.”

Assuming everything goes as planned, which is far from a guarantee, Suggs could return anytime from September to November. In all likelihood, however, the latter is more of a realistic expectation, as the team would be smart not to rush him back and risk further injury.

Luckily, it’s only a partial tear, but, as Harbaugh intimated, Suggs’ return ultimately depends on several variables — some in his control, some not.

In the meantime, Baltimore will lean on the rest of the defense to pick up the slack, opening the door for rookie second-round pick Courtney Upshaw, who figures to receive extensive playing time and may even start in the base defense.

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, Young signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Bills Friday.

Another $1 million is available via playtime bonuses, a source tells Mort.

Buffalo recently became a widely-speculated destination for Young, who worked out in Orchard Park last week, but left without signing a deal. Reportedly, there was at least one other team interested in Young’s services, but his market, to say the least, has been quiet.

With the Bills, Young is expected to serve as the direct backup to incumbent starter Ryan Fitzpatrick, assuming he beats out Tyler Thigpen in training camp. Set to turn 29, Young provides decent insurance should Fitzpatrick suffer an injury or go into his usual mid-season slump, though his starting days, as we saw in Philly last season, are likely well behind him.

Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com believes that Ochocinco, Donte Stallworth, and Anthony Gonzalez are the three likeliest players to be ousted out of New England’s crowded receiver corps.

While Reiss cautions it’s still “very early” and “one injury can alter the picture,” Ocho’s exit would come as no surprise after a 2011 campaign in which he earned little playing time — and even less passes thrown his way.

After their lack of depth at receiver became apparent in the Super Bowl, the Pats went out and splurged in free agency, signing Brandon Lloyd, Stallworth, Gonzalez, and, most recently, Jabar Gaffney. They also re-signed Deion Branch, just for good measure.

With Wes Welker (assuming he doesn’t hold out) and Lloyd penciled in as starters, along with their duo of playmaking tight ends and Branch as the slot man, there’s simply not enough room for the 34-year-old Ochocinco, who may have to wait more tables before finding a new home.

(I’ll give you a hint: He’s a Hall of Fame tight end, and arguably the best the position has ever seen.)

Yes, of course it’s Shannon Sharpe, former longtime Bronco and current analyst for CBS’ The NFL Today. We learned this about him: he won’t be jumping to Bristol anytime soon. That, and he states the obvious. (But we knew that already.)

On Monday, when a follower of his tweeted, “I’m done with First take & done with Espn b/c its clear they have an axe to grind its like they are Fox news sports version,” Sharpe retorted with a scathing tweet too long for Twitter’s boundaries, blatantly suggesting ESPN has an agenda or bias toward a particular player.

I told you if they dislike a guy the try and paint him in a neg light, but we know who they love he’s on every day. … tmi.me/pCimj

— shannon sharpe (@ShannonSharpe) May 7, 2012

I told you if they dislike a guy the try and paint him in a neg light, but we know who they love he’s on every day. #winkwink. RT @sbwan @ShannonSharpe I’m done with First take & done with Espn b/c its clear they have an axe to grind its like they are Fox news sports version

It’s unclear who exactly he’s referring to, but it’s not hard to make a couple of educated guesses when you consider ESPN’s penchant for beating the same topic(s) to death. With BountyGate still burning hot, and Tim Tebow being, well, Tim Tebow … those are my assumptions.

It’s not like Sharpe is wrong, either. With their demographic in mind, ESPN panders more so to the mainstream crowd, with news usually centering around the same teams and topics, including (and especially) the two aforementioned.

On Monday, the Bills announced they’ve signed Jackson to a two-year contract extension.

Terms of the deal, which runs through 2014, weren’t disclosed, but GM Buddy Nix is glad the ordeal is over.

“We’ve always said we’re going to keep our good players and we’ve done it again today,” said Nix. “So what we think (we got) is one of the best backs in the league.”

Obviously, so is Jackson, knowing he gets to remain with the NFL only club he’s known, and at a higher salary than the $1.955 million he was set to make in 2012.

“I always said I wanted to be here, and now I have that opportunity to be here,” Jackson said. “I’m glad this is over with and we can focus on playing football. We’re doing some tremendous things here and I think we can get a lot accomplished in three years.”

Though he won’t be pulling in an extravagant amount of cash, this is a much-deserved pay bump for F-Jax, who spent the latter part of 2011 on injured reserve. Prior to his season-ending injury, however, he was among the league leaders in yards from scrimmage. In six seasons with the Bills, he’s racked up over 5,300 total yards, becoming a dual-threat both on the ground and through the air.

Going into his age-31 campaign, Jackson likely will return to feature back duties, despite the emergence of C.J. Spiller. While Spiller is no doubt the future at the position, Jackson has plenty left in his tank and should continue to perform at a high level, especially with this financial hurdle now behind him.

After speaking with the Canton-bound running back, SI’s Jim Trotter reports that Tomlinson is “95 percent retired,” adding he’ll play only under the right circumstances in 2012.

This news is neither new nor surprising, as LaDainian has said he’d like to play another season, but also admitted he was considering retirement.

It’s also not surprising he’s found not a single taker in free agency thus far. Tomlinson turns 33 before the season begins and has demonstrated the classic signs of an aging and worn-out rusher: low productivity, lack of initial burst (patented, in his case), and, of course, self-doubt about the future.

It’s to be expected after a monumental and hard-earned career. Happens to the best of ‘em — and there’s few better than LT.

Though that deal has since fallen through, the same type of rumors are starting up again, this time involving the Broncos, who’ve reportedly shown an interest in the veteran cornerback.

Two NFL sources tell the Denver Post’s Mike Klis that the Broncos “have expressed interest in acquiring” Samuel, floating over two proposals to Philadelphia — one involving a late-round draft pick, and the other an undisclosed player.

However, Denver “no longer believes” they can strike deal with the Eagles, so a swap ultimately appears unlikely.

Philly has made it clear they’re looking to deal Samuel, preferably in advance of next Thursday’s NFL draft. Despite negotiations apparently stalling, the team, at this point, would take just a fifth or sixth-round pick for the 31-year-old, so talks can still re-ignite at any point.

If there’s no progress in the coming days, look for a deal to be consummated on draft day, with the Broncos as the most likely suitor. No matter the destination, however, it’s become painfully obvious Samuel will have a new home in 2012.

The online betting site released the spreads for each of the Opening Day contests, listing half of the NFC North — the Bears and Lions — as the most heavily-favored to win their respective matchups.

Chicago (-8.5) opens up at home against (in all likelihood) Andrew Luck and the Colts. Ditto for Detroit (-7.5), who will play host to Jeff Fisher’s new-look Rams.

Right behind them are the Saints, Eagles, and Ravens (among others), all of whom are six-point favorites.

And if you’re wondering (which I’m sure you are), Peyton Manning is projected to earn his first victory in his new uniform, though the line (-1.5) could always change considering the opponent — Pittsburgh.

Listed below are the full set of odds and spreads for Week 1, via BetOnline.

Dallas Cowboys
New York Giants -3.5

Indianapolis Colts
Chicago Bears -7.5

Jacksonville Jaguars

Carolina Panthers -1.5
Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Cincinnati Bengals
