As you probably all know by now, Antonio Cromartie, the ladies man that he is, has eight different baby mothers. However, it was his wife who recently instilled fear in him with several disturbing texts no man ever wants to receive.

Per the New York Post, Terricka Cason Cromartie, who is seven months pregnant with the couple’s second child, appeared to be in the act of committing suicide on May 6, as she sent the New York Jets cornerback these text messages:

“God forgive me, I don’t want to die. What have I done?” and “I cut my wrists. I took those pills.”

In Miami at the time, Antonio called the local New Jersey police department at nearly 3 a.m., trying to get help for his wife before it was too late.

“There’s a problem at my house. She’s bleeding. She cut her wrists,” he told the dispatcher.

However, it was all a not-so-clever ruse.

When police busted down the doors of the family’s home, Terricka was in bed with her two daughters, safe and sound and with no blood in sight.

Why the frantic messages, you ask?

Well, Terrika later confessed that she had faked the suicide attempt because she was convinced Cromartie was “cheating on her.” In a jealous bit of rage, she even sent texts “to the woman she believes is romantically involved with her husband,” telling the would-be adulterer “that both she [Terricka] and her husband have [word redacted] even though they do not.”

Despite her being a-okay (at least, physically), authorities insisted she undergo psychiatric evaluation. Although initially “belligerent” and “uncooperative,” Terricka eventually agreed, and had child services temporarily watch her children.

While it’s good to see her being protective of her husband, this whole act was completely unnecessary and perhaps even borderline criminal. What if she had diverted police and EMS from a real emergency, and somebody else suffered because she was too paranoid and insecure to civilly confront Cromartie?

Dah, well. I guess all really is fair in love and war.

Appearing on an NFL.com podcast Thursday, former Jets and current Giants punter Steve Weatherford spoke on Sanchez, whom he says he likes, but doesn’t see a natural leader in the fourth-year pro.

“I like Mark, I think he’s a very talented quarterback, but from my standpoint, I haven’t seen a lot of maturation from the position,” Weatherford said. “When you’re a quarterback and you come in, and you’re expected to be the face of the franchise, and you’re expected to lead the team, that’s a lot to take on as a rookie, but as the years go on, I think you’re expected to mature, skill-wise, and also mature as a leader, and to be honest with you, as much as I like the guy, I just haven’t seen that.”

Like Jets quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh, who recently tweaked Sanchez for his “poor decision-making,” Weatherford had an up-close and personal look at the 25-year-old in 2009 and 2010, when the team made it to consecutive AFC Championship Games.

Following a poor showing in the 2010 playoffs, Weatherford bolted Gang Green and nestled in with the cross-town rival Giants, where he’s since landed a new contract … and, of course, a Super Bowl ring.

Weatherford has developed a bit of an outgoing persona, which became evident in February when he unloaded on Jets special teams guru Mike Westhoff, so it’s not surprising he’s taken another shot at his former squad. However, many fans in the Big Apple have expressed the same concerns about Sanchez, and I’d be willing to bet the Jets’ brass shares at least some of the same mindset, too.

But, hey, at least Sanchez has this guy on his side.

During an open media session Wednesday, All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis raved about Tim Tebow, calling the do-it-all backup a “born leader” and gifted athlete.

“He’s a born leader,” Revis said, via the NY Daily News. “He really is. He’s a born leader. Very few athletes the gift that he has. He tries to lead by example all the time and he tries to be positive, which is awesome. I think that results (in) his success on the field. He came in with Denver and did unbelievable. And now he’s with us. We’re happy. We’re excited for him. We’re happy (that) he’ll bring his leadership qualities to this team.”

Bart Scott, on the other hand, was true to his nature and, unsurprisingly, has already engaged in some playful banter. When Tebow recently suggested to Scott that he should soak himself in a cold tub, the veteran linebacker responded by asking Tebow to baptize him.

That was about all the media got out of Scott, who last greeted them with an “inappropriate and unacceptable” one-finger salute. He did have one last comment …

“Yes, I love Tebow,” he said as he walked out.

With questions surrounding his future continuing to linger, Scott is doing his best to enjoy the camaraderie while he still, you know, can.

Now, not only has that number gone up a pound, but McKnight divulged that he went from golden cookies to the Golden Arches.

Gang Green’s shifty scatback and All-Pro kick returner told the NY Daily News Wednesday that he chomped down on a “lot” of McDonalds this offseason. In retrospect, he says, it wasn’t the smartest choice, and he could’ve followed a better example set by one certain Jet.

“I was eating healthy, but the majority of time I was eating bad. I wasn’t eating all the right stuff… Like Tim Tebow,” McKnight said.

So let me get this straight, Joe. You lose your lunch during a routine training camp practice, but have an iron stomach when scarfing down a copious amount of Big Macs and french fries?

Ok then.

Nevertheless, bulking up was a priority for McKnight, a third-year pro who figures to see more playing time in 2012. With LaDainian Tomlinson out of the picture, he stands to gain (no pun intended) more offensive touches behind incumbent starter Shonn Greene to go along with duties on special teams.

However, the extra weight will do nothing to improve his paltry 3.12 yards-per-carry average from 2011, or his ever-persistent fumbling issue, which is typically more of a mental than physical lapse for runningbacks. There’s also a chance some of his speed could be sapped, similar to how Felix Jones was adversely affected after putting on more mass.

But at least we now know McKnight likely has a part waiting for him should a Super Size Me sequel ever get the green light.

Per ESPNNewYork.com, Joe Namath stated emphatically Tuesday that Sanchez is the better quarterback, a glowing endorsement for the embattled fourth-year pro.

“There’s no doubt about it, at this point certainly,” Namath said Tuesday at the United Way Gridiron Gala in Manhattan. “And Mark’s going to get better. He’s only going into his fourth year. Golly, I remember a team that won a championship with a quarterback in his fourth year. I hope that happens again.”

Gee, I wonder who he’s referring to there?

After initially bashing the Jets’ decision to trade for Tebow, Broadway Joe now thinks “it could work,” but said Sanchez shouldn’t think twice about his competitor.

“I’d be tickled to death. Are you kidding? Mark knows he’s the better quarterback and bring on the competition,” Namath said.

While Namath is certainly entitled to his opinion — we’ve learned he’s not afraid to utilize the First Amendment — it’s become increasingly obvious Gang Green doesn’t echo those same sentiments.

On Monday, New York’s quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh chided Sanchez for his “poor decision-making” last season, which contributed to the team’s tailspin, both on and off the field.

When it came to the backup QB, however, Cavanaugh went in the other direction, telling the NY Daily News that Tebow “can be very good” before praising his mechanics. Seriously.

“I think he can be very good,” Cavanaugh said. “I was pleasantly surprised when I saw him over an extended period of time . . . not just watching him play on film. I think he’s certainly got the arm strength. He has good mechanics. They’re getting better every day.”

At this point, it’s unclear just what role Tebow will have. Some reports stated that he’ll be used on special teams, while others have indicated he’s poised to take Sanchez’s job under center.

One thing we do know? Judging by his preferences, Namath probably won’t be tuning into E! this summer.

Now, thanks to an unlikely source, it’s gotten that much heavier.

Pontificating on the past, Jets quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh told the New York Daily News that Sanchez displayed “poor decision-making” last season, which attributed to several of his staggering 26 turnovers.

“There were turnovers that were not his fault that were credited to him,” Cavanaugh told the Daily News in his first public comments since the Jets missed the playoffs at 8-8 last season. “But there were enough that playing that position he needs to cut some of those down. Most of them came from just poor decision-making.

Evidently, under new coordinator Tony Sparano, the Jets want Sanchez to become more of a game-manager. This, as Cavanaugh emphasized to the 24-year-old, means no mistakes, no turnovers; just smart decisions and productive plays, little margin for error.

“So I spent a lot of time with him talking about ‘Let’s get focused on managing the game,’” Cavanaugh added. “Taking the big plays when they’re there (and) understanding that… even though it’s drawn up to be a touchdown, not every play has to be a touchdown. Not every play has to be a completion. Sometimes throwing it away is a good thing. Sometimes taking a sack is better than throwing an interception.”

It sounds like they’re trying to do with Sanchez what the 49ers did with Alex Smith — transform an inconsistent, but young quarterback into a safe and sound signal-caller. The Niners got to the NFC Championship game with that mentality, and, for a change, won because of Smith, not in spite of him.

Many have knocked the move to acquire Tim Tebow, but, media circus aside, it should light a big fire under Sanchez, whose never had a legitimate number two breathing down his neck, able to push him for his job.

At this point, Sanchez is out of excuses. The Jets changed coordinators, simplified the offense, re-stocked the cupboard with more offensive weapons, and brought in a guy that he relates to on both a personal and positional level. There’s nothing more the team can do.

He has all the motivation — and 58 million assorted reasons — to succeed. If he can’t, even under the bright lights in a high-pressure situation, then … well, let’s just say the legion of Tebow-maniacs will be quite pleased.

“TV sources” tell the NY Daily News that the Jets will not be featured in this year’s installment of HBO’s “Hard Knocks.” A spokesman for the network would not confirm New York is out of the running simply because a decision has yet to be made.

“We still have time to decide,” the spokesman said. “And we, and our NFL Films partners, haven’t made any decisions yet.”

A report Thursday indicated Gang Green was on the short-list of teams HBO had in mind to document during training camp, which really was no surprise.

When the Jets did the show in 2010, there was a weekly ratings bonanza, with an interesting dynamic between Ryan and his much-discussed squad making for must-see television.

From a fan’s point of view, it’s an interesting look into the day-to-day operations of an NFL franchise. In the Jets case, however, it would add to the media circus that already surrounds the club, thanks in part to backup quarterback Tim Tebow, a darling of the press and tabloid-fixture worldwide.

It’s been said that owner Woody Johnson was fully on board with a “Hard Knocks” sequel, but Ryan and other members of the Jets’ brass were apprehensive. It seems we know who won the battle.

Even in the offseason, there’s no quit to the intense rivalry that exists between the Jets and Patriots. Normally, it’s just the Jets doing the talking, and today … well, is no different.

While made available to the media Thursday, Gang Green cornerback Darrelle Revis touched on calling Pats coach Bill Belichick a “jerk” during an ESPN segment last month, saying he was just speaking his mind and being truthful.

“I gave my honest opinion,” Revis said. “You guys know me very well. This isn’t the first time me speaking what I need to speak about something. I talked about the Randy Moss stuff… It’s just how I felt. That’s how I feel. I feel that people let him slide when he says his smart remarks (on) certain things. He says comments about us like he never coached here…. He did. That’s just how I felt. So they told me to sum it up. I gave one word. He can take it how he wants. He can say (whatever) he wants to say back.

Revis acknowledged he has a good deal of respect for Belichick, but thought some of the comments he made toward the Jets last year were “ignorant.”

“I have respect for him. Winning is winning,” Revis said. “But sometimes things are disrespectful. When you say certain comments about the Jets, some stuff is disrespectful. It’s okay to have a rivalry. It’s okay to compete. But when it gets personal, you’re getting disrespectful. I didn’t start this battle. The smart remarks sometimes he says are ignorant. It’s ignorant to this organization.”

What comments, you ask? This one came to the mind of the All Pro corner, among others trashing Rex Ryan’s pride and joy.

Then, in between dodging questions about his contractual situation, Revis turned his attention to Tom Brady, who he says was “disrespectful” on the field, echoing teammate Antonio Cromartie’s infamous “a–hole” comment made during the 2010 postseason.

“Sometimes he do (like that that) on the field,” Revis said. “That’s his personal opinion about him. If that’s how he acts on the field. That’s how he acts. He wants to throw a touchdown and point at our sideline. That’s disrespect, man. That’s not sportsmanship. Now do people say words on the field to each other? Yeah… that’s in between the lines. But then when it’s getting out of hand… Come on, man. Come on. Sportsmanship.”

Don’t expect Belichick and Co. to fire back; it’s not their style (though, Wes Welker may get a shot or ten in). In any case, Turkey Day, when both teams meet for the second time, just became infinitely more intriguing … as if that was possible.

Although new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano wouldn’t reveal what he’s got in store for Tim Tebow, another of Gang Green’s coaches opened up about his plans for the polarizing backup quarterback.

According to the New York Daily News, longtime Jets special teams coach Mike Westhoff revealed that he’s planning to incorporate Tebow into his unit’s packages, even going so far as calling him a “more potent Brad Smith” without divulging further.

Smith, now a member of the Bills, was a favorite of Westhoff’s and an integral part of New York’s typically league-leading specials squad.

While it’s extremely doubtful we’ll see Tebow returning kicks, something Smith excels at, there’s been speculation that he may be used as the personal protector on punts. Sparano said last week that Tebow “can play anywhere from one to 20 snaps” on offense, primarily in the “Tebow Package,” a variety of read-option plays designed to maximize his skillset.

Of the roles Tebow could be thrust into, the likeliest include: Wildcat quarterback, H-back/fullback, and, now, whatever Westhoff, one of the game’s most respected coaches, has in mind for the 24-year-old.

No matter his role, though, you can bet that Tebow is already super excited.

Ten days after Tim Tebow received the royal welcome to NYC — a smattering of boos and cheers — at Yankee Stadium, two other Jets got the same treatment.

Minus the cheers.

As they sat side-by-side at the Clippers-Knicks game Wednesday night, Mark Sanchez and Santonio Holmes were booed loudly by the Madison Square Garden crowd, ESPNNewYork.com reported.

The quarterback and receiver, whom are working to mend a torn relationship, were good sports about it, laughing off the jeers while enjoying the comfort of their primo seats.

Cornerback Antonio Cromartie also tagged along, but was spared by the boo birds. All three declined comment on the not-so-warm reception.
