didn't want to steal space in Twister's thread nor try to stomp out the embers of conversation that are still going in there but it got me thinking of a few more

2010 concluded with two promising looking young QBs whom many expected to break out and possibly even join the ranks of the elite...(Freeman, Bradford) but both pretty much ate a bag of dicks

1 Do you think either will recover and have a good 2012
2. for those in a similar position this year, who if any do you think will have a similarly disappointing year? (Newton, Dalton, Stafford, and to a lesser degree, Alex Smith)
3. Do you think Rivers will recover from a sad year and join the ranks of the elite again? (it seems like a thousand years ago it some ways so if you are laughing right now remember that at this time last year he was #3 or 4 on most folks list and was one of the ones being used as a bludgeon against yinzers trying to claim top 5 status for Roethlisberger)
4. Can the Cowboys claim the status as America's team anymore if they aren't even Texas' team?*

* I realize that there's many a slip twixt the cup and the lip, but I am assuming their respective fates next year will more or less mirror 2011, (minus the injuries for the Texans) as in playoff near miss for Dallas, vs AFCS crown for the Texans and possibly more.

1. bradford will go about 28-15 as far as td-int. freeman about 20-20
2. dalton and stafford will both take a step back this year. moreso dalton then stafford. i just wasnt to impressed with the 2 games i saw dalton play, in addition to the highlights weekly. i see a sophomore slump. stafford will post ~4000 yards and 30-15 td-int
3. rivers will go about 30-15 as well
4. they weren't america's team this year, so i see no reason to believe why they will be next year

1. Both will have new HCs and new OCs. So I think both will have growing pains again next season. Looking long term, I don't Bradford will pan out but Freeman has a chance to be a Steve McNair light.

2. Of those QBs, I think Newton has the best chance of a small step backwards.

3. I think Rivers will bounce back, and if Eli wins his second SB, I think Ben will have fallen out of the top 5 in many people's eyes.

4. I think the way the Texans finished the season, they will be a lot of people's sexy SB rep from the AFC.

I can see myself on that bandwagon...moreso for their early season than the ending though..

I mean they had some pretty major injuries and still kept running like a legit playoff team...I think before the roof caved in they were headed for a #1 seed and I would assume at least an AFCC appearance

hatter.

With an actual offseason, Newton will be a top 10 QB next season. NFL has never seen the likes of him and they aren't going to "figure him out". Kid eats, breaths, and lives football......and would most likley start murdering people if he doesn't get more help to win (and I think they give it to him).

I thought Newton was just freak talent....but his drive to be great is almost scary. Ray Lewis even felt the need to tell Newton to relax and that it takes time to get those around you to up there game.

My thinking is, how good would this team be if you had added a healthy Schaub and Mario Williams to that team that lost to Baltimore in the divisional round?

It's very possible. But I think the other guys mentioned are more of a sure thing to have very good seasons.

Alex Smith and Dalton are more sure things?

I think the kid who potentially has the best overall physical skill set we have ever seen in a NFL QB is a better bet. At this point the only question you would have for Cam is does he have the drive to be great........and considering he one of the only non playoff players still putting in work as if the season isnt over yet.........we know the answer.

It will be hard for Newton not to get more help on D and ST next year......

Considering Dalton's weapons, yes. You might have me on Alex Smith, but again, I just think that all QBs will go through some growing pains early on and with Cam, he isn't sneaking up on anyone next season.

not like Cam snuck up on people this year w/ his week 1 and week 2 debut.....

Difference between Newton and Dalton.....overall Newton got better, Dalton didn't as their rookie seasons went on. Dalton has a weapon, yes. Old ass Steve Smith ain't exactly a chump. Newton offensively will have more weapons around him than any of those QBs. Megatron is the single greatest weapon......but Newton has the great surrounding cast on offense in 2012.

Hey, I'm only half-heartedly arguing this point because I think all the QB listed could have very good seasons. But a couple of other points to be made. With Dalton, not only does he have a weapon in AJ Green, but he has a TE who can be every bit as good as some of the other top TEs. There is also the possibility that Newton still could lose his OC to a HC job somewhere.

Dalton still would have a weaker overall offensive cast.

True about the Car OC...but a lot what went down was just Cam Newton being a beast. Norv Turner's son I believe is credited w/ all ESPN gadget plays.

but given his more explosive debut season , will opposing DCs also be more apt to prepare specially for Newton vs seeing Dalton as "just another ok to good standard issue pocket QB" ?
