Twice this week he has insulted his players by publicly coveting players from other teams

Earlier this week he tossed Romo under the bus with this

Eli biggest difference between Giants and Cowboys

Now he throws his linebackers under the same bus

he dreams of linebackers like 49ers' Willis and Bowman

he should fire his GM (oh snap)

How is he throwing his LB under the bus? He's saying he hopes he can turn into them

I agree. I think it's the same on the QB thing. It even says in the link that he praised Romo

Eh, I disagree on that. He kind of tried to cover his ass I think considering he said the difference between the Cowboys and Giants is Eli Manning and then AFTER gave Romo praise

I'd need a direct quote instead of some random asshat's tweet weakly paraphrasing it, to judge the Romo-Eli comment fully but I agree with PP that it seems like there was backhanded element to his Romo "praise" "Romo's ok and all but damn I wish I had Eli"

It is one thing to think it, quite another to say it out loud, especially if you have any intention of staying with Romo.

I agree the LB comments are slightly less out of line as they do seem to suggest he believes his "boys" have the potential to reach that level, but there is still a certain "why can't you be more like your big brother?!' feel to it. Yeah you want all pro players instead of raw but promising rookies who have to be developed?..they have a club for that Jerry its called "every fuggin owner in the league"

Yeah point was mainly to say "Why say it at all?" It definitely isn't a compliment to your own players. Publicly stating players from other teams are superior to those on your own team (even followed by praise and/or "hopes they can become" jibberish) can only be considered an insult, regardless of what caveats you place at the end to soften the blow. Everyone knows Eli>Romo and SFran LB's>Dallas LB's but calling attention to the fact via an interview is just plain dumb for a owner/GM. If he isn't smart enough to know that his players will be bombarded with questions about these statements for the entire off season he is dumber than I thought.

That sort of statement, "I hope one day we can be as good as those guys" might work with a very young team if the owner/GM was saying it about the team as a collective. But the Cowboys are pretty middle-of-the-pack agewise. Telling a bunch of 5 or 6 year veterans that you hope they can become as good as a bunch of 8 or 9 year veterans is a slap in the face.

And, as has been alluded to, in most organizations the wrath for a deficiency in talent would fall on the GM. Jerruh, meet the mirror. Mirror, Jerruh.

Particularly when those 8 or 9 year veterans are actually 3 or 4 year veterans.

Maybe he is just leading into going after Eli's older brother.

"...In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But, naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers." -Cliff Clavin
