Here, maybe this will help.

Yinzer references the "Pittsburghese" dialect's use of yinz as the plural of the second person pronoun you. Yinz is itself a contraction of the Appalachian dialect's you-uns.

or

A resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Known for their love of all things Steelers and Donnie Iris and extreme hatred of Cleveland. Consists mainly on Primanti Brothers and ethnic cuisine. Yinzers can be easily identified by their one-of-a-kind, ridiculous accent.

or my personal favorite

Someone who lives in Pittsburgh, stuck in the past waving thier terrible towel, breathes the Steelers 24/7 and not very educated. They also frown on helping the city move forward with progression (meaning saving old useless buildings that can't be rehabbed.)

They also claim to be progressive socially, but really aren't. Example: if you are gay, they don't care, just as long as you aren't flamboyant or outlandish about it.

Other than the terrible towel waiving, I view the term yinzer as a negative because it deals with blind homerism and ignorance.
To me a yinzer is someone who thinks that the Steelers lose only because the OC or HC or QB screwed things up. They never give credit to the other team. And this is all associated with that distinct western PA accent.
You know what happens when you challenge Fanof? You lose.

ESPN or not it does not negate the truth. Steeler fans for the most part act like babies.

1. They think the league is out to get them.

2. They disappear when their team does poorly.

3. They can never see past the black and gold glasses they wear.

4. They can throw jabs but when the punches come back their way they can't handle it.

Bottom line for the most part they are a fan base of self centered Ynizers. There a exceptions Sideshow for the most part understands the game is bigger than one team. Until you and Vandy see and understand that these type threads will always refer to you.

First of all, you're generalizing and you know damn well your team has as many of those as any team (birdman for example). And since you've placed me in that category (because you're a punk-ass bitch and like to ruffle feathers), I'll reply to your generalizations regarding me.

1. Nope, don't fall into that category.
2. Nope, don't fall into that category either.
3. I'm no more homer than most anyone else is. My opinion is that some of you (SS included) put on a front so people don't think you're a homer, but face it, most of us (you included) have shown homeristic signs at times.
4. I can handle jabs, and (like you) don't just take them and usually throw them back until the time deems it unecessary to any longer.

So, to sum up; kiss my yinzer ass. :towel:

And SS, I'm sorry my yinzer brother, but if we were fighting a war, I would question your loyalty to the cause because you're too objective (to a fault). As the famous leroy says "troof hurts."

In my defense, my leaving (after the 09 game I'm assuming you're talking about) was more centralized around not being able to stand you fuckers.

The rest of the time was because this place was boring. I wore my TFB jersey the whole week after the 2007 SB to school, I'd say I'm not one of those people who goes into hiding when my team does bad

Nah, I use this board as therapy most times after Steeler games, especially when they lose. I live and die with the Black and GOld on Sundays as much as any of my fellow Stiller fans. I just think that I have the ability to analyze a game after it's over more objectively than those fans who over react to the results. I will admit to one thing, I do have tendency to pick against the Steelers on some of this board's pick em threads because I'm so supersticious and don't want to jinx them. Hell, during their 05 SB run I made sure I wore the same clothes, sat in the same spot, had the same breakfast on game day as a way of NOT screwing things up. Sure down deep I know that none of that really has an effect, but loyalty to the Steelers is as strong as anyones, and objectivity doesn't diminish that.

You actually live in Pittsburgh too, right? So I think you get to see the bad side of things, and that's what you come on here and vent about for the most part. Vandy and Ward don't live there, so they aren't subject to the constant barrage of over the top homer spazz that you get on the street/in the bars/on the radio. That would tend to make one more objective, I would think.

I don't like to go out to bars to watch football here, because some of the shit you hear about 'what's Atlanta's problem' is straight from Rhen Var.

This is a good point. I went home over Thanksgiving and "flabbergasted" is the best word I can come up with to describe my reaction the over-the-top asinine homerism of my fellow Pats fans in New England. I couldn't believe how bad it was on sports talk radio there.

Best way I could describe it is someone who is borderline conservative spending all day listening to right-wing loonies on talk radio. They only get more bat shit crazy. That is how Pats fans are back home.

OK, so you got the explanation of "yinz" down correctly. Having grown up there, my mom (pronounced "mum") in most parts of burgh territory, hated that word, so I never used it. Also, you'll find people with the heavy Pittsburgh accent live in areas very close to the city and tend to be what a lot of folks would call "white trash."

Every city I've ever lived in has had a breed of people like this. For example, where I live currently (southern MD), there is a term called "SMIB" which stands for Southern Maryland Inbred and those folks have a kind of uneducated sounding accent that's kind of like an Eastern PA accent with some southern drawl added to it. In New York, you have the "My Cousin Vinny" accents and, which my ex-wife had, etc. etc. etc...

BTW, I think Cleveland fans invented the term "Yinzer" as they are the closest rival city to Pittsburgh.

Exactly! At work, at the gym, on the local news, even in my neighborhood, it is difficult to find people who 1. have the football knowlege to break down a game before and analyze it properly after, and 2. are able to look at it objectively instead of over reacting. You'd be AMAZED at how many times over the past year that I've heard someone tell me, that "the Stillers need to find another Bus to run the ball down the opponent's throats"

This is where I have a problem my fine black and yellow friend. You claim (as others do) that you are objective but IMO, you pimp Roethlisberger, Ward, and Polamalu more than I do and rival that of Vandy, so this is why I don't necessarily buy the whole "SS is the only objective Steelers fan on here crap."

And I'm kind of the same way in that I tend not to pick the Steelers a whole lot in gameday threads etc, as more of an anti-jinx tactic.

Also, I visit my family in Pittsburgh at least 4-5 times per year, so it's not like I've lost touch with reality. In fact, the longer I've been away, the more I notice the subtle accent my family has and often pick on my mom for saying things like "dahntahn" etc. That's really the extent of her yinzer accent. Mine has vanished due to moving around so much in my adult life.

Lon (Kansa City, Mo.): I'm a transplanted 'Burgh boy living in Kansas City. My wife was pregnant with my oldest son when the Steelers drafted an undersized former QB from Georgia with their (compensatory) 3rd round round draft pick in 1998. Now, just days ago sitting here with my almost 14-year-old son watching Hines give his retirement speech...couldn't help but think how fast time flies when you're having fun. Thanks Hines for everything! We will miss your tough catches for first downs when we needed them most, your crushing blocks that had linebackers complaining about rough treatment from WRs, and above all, your smile! You're the consummate football player, pro, and thankfully, Steeler for life! Black and Gold forever!

Nick (Cleveland): As a Browns fan, my memories of Hines Ward will always be his [expletive] smile. There were so many times I wish someone on my beloved Browns could slap it off his face, but we never did. Now that he is retired, I can see myself always referring back to that smile. He was one of the greatest complete wide receivers I had the displeaure of watching bury my Browns year after year in his storied career. Glad to see him go out on a high note. Take care Hines! IMO, a sure fire Hall of Famer.

See, my perception is that the only player that I really "pimp" is Roethlisberger. Mostly because of the lack of credit he receives nationally.

As far as the western PA accent, is was most noticable to me when I went to college and all the Philly guys would bust our stones. Finally one day they had a Pittsburgh radio station on and said, come here and listen to this. The light bulb turned on. Another sad thing my wife and I have noticed lately is that on the local news, it seems like 9 times out of 10 they are reporting on a crime and either show video survalence of a person robbing a store or a person all ready in custody for committing a crime, the criminals are wearing some type of Steeler gear.
You know what happens when you challenge Fanof? You lose.
